The BIG TV & Radio Giveaway ... With so much financial uncertainty and the digital switchover looming, W4B – the TV and Radio Charity have pledged to giveaway 500 TV and Radio’s away to those in the Granada TV region who would benefit from them the most. The charity, which celebrates it’s 70th Anniversary this year, is the principle charity in the UK giving TV’s and Radio’s. Tim Leech, Chief Executive, said “with the digital switchover happening in the Granada region, many vulnerable people will be very concerned about the cost of converting their TV’s to receive a digital image. With the BIG TV & Radio Giveaway we hope to make sure that those who people who need help the most will be able to enjoy the comfort that a TV or Radio can bring”. In a recent survey, W4B – The TV & Radio Charity found that over 20% of respondents said that their TV or radio made them feel less isolated and a further 10% said that their sets were a real lifeline. The Giveaway is open to anyone who is unable to leave their home easily due to age, illness or disability and is in receipt of either Pension Credit or Incapacity Benefit. Applicants will be able to choose from a range of TV’s and Radio’s including a radio/cassette/CD player and a 19” digital TV. Tim Leech added, “Although there will be a help scheme for some older or disabled people to convert TV’s to receive digital TV, using the 2 remote controls needed for Freeview, satellite or cable systems can be too confusing. That is why we are offering a digital choice.” For background information and help with press requests please contact Emma Greenhalgh on 0161 408 0162 or emma@w4b.org.uk. May I take this opportunity to thank you for your service. It will be nice to have some company in the evenings and there is no way I could have afforded a television without you. - Miss P, who is partially sighted, has a hip/pelvis and spine injury and suffers from depression.
